Guest Editorial Graphic Schilling Show BlogWe don’t serve men… we serve a God in heaven who knew the outcome of this presidential election before the first vote was cast. And we’re living in this particular time for a reason… God wouldn’t have put us here in this moment in history if He didn’t have a purpose for us.

God knows our hearts and He knows our strongest desire is to save His children from the sin of this nation, but God’s plan for us is not an easy road. If it were easy we wouldn’t have been forged in the fire for this great battle. We’ve been prepared for the days to come and we must be thankful. We need to rejoice because God is the victor – not a politician (Republican or Democrat).

How much sweeter is the victory when every path of escape, but God, has been closed off? When all hope is lost and our enemies surround us – that is when our eyes must turn toward heaven and remember where our salvation is assured.

God in heaven – eternal and undefeated.

The final vote will be cast by God – and His vote is the only one that matters.

“The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.” – Proverbs 21:1

  1. Exodus 14:4 states that God supernaturally hardened Pharaoh’s heart so that the Egyptians would know that He is Lord. Proverbs 21:1 teaches us that the king’s heart is in the “hand of the Lord.” Sometimes we will see obstacles in our life that are divinely ordained. When we pray for God’s guidance and commit our ways to the Lord, then we can be confident that even doors that are shut may be God’s leading or timing.

In Exodus 14:12, 13 we read, “Is this not the word that we told you in Egypt, saying, ‘Let us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than that we should die in the wilderness. And Moses said to the people, ‘Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever.’ ”
Verse 12 reveals the slave mentality in the minds of the children of Israel. Even as the process of divine deliverance was under way, they complained and actually longed to return to slavery rather than have to develop faith and trust in God, which would bring them true freedom.

God did not run scared from HIS throne last night. All of this is, as it was prophesied to be, when the snake crawled into the garden. The Gospel is a powerful liberating force in every realm, even in social wellbeing. When persecuted the church is pure and zealous and passionate and faithful and loyal and separated.

Outside persecution tends to purify the church. Just look at Europe. You see the persecuted church strong, in love with Christ, passionate, zealous, faithful, separated ’cause the outside persecution kept them pure. You can go through the whole church in Russia; you’ll never meet a liberal because you can’t become a liberal by reading your Bible. You have to go to a school to learn that stuff, and sit at the feet of a heretic. The American church has gotten apathetic from the prosperity surrounding it. It’s about to experience the fires of persecution such as it has not known in this country before.

Outside persecution tends to purify the church and keep it strong. Inside, defection leads to its death. As goes the church, so goes the world it was to influence. We have what we have, from the failure of the church. It has slidden and drifted into coldness and indifference toward Christ, and then it opened it’s doors like so many “evangelical” churches today and just invited the world to come in, simultaneously failing to practice church discipline. It did not deal with sin. It made the world feel comfortable. Pretty soon, you have false teaching. Then you’re dead. Then you’re apostate. That’s the cycle. Wherever you have persecution, you have the preservation of the church. Look at Eastern Europe, look at Russia, the church was mercilessly persecuted. Not all of Eastern Europe, by the way, was under the influence of Christianity. A lot of it was under the influence of Islam, but that part of Eastern Europe, which got the Christian message and then went under communism. For example, in the Ukraine and in Russia, the church is strong. The church is pure. And the church has sound doctrine. The church disciplines sin. The church is separated. It will soon be even more so.

  2. As I was taking down signs throuthout Charlottesville, someone told me I am on walk of shame. I didn’t say anyting to him. I just keep walking until I when to Bible study this evening. We need to be on a walk of faith.
That is what I feel is lacking in allot of us. Ability to walk in faith. For the next 4 yrs is going to be a hard walk in faith especially here in Charlottesville. But I know there is at least 5,000 individuals who are out there on same walk as I.

  3. You know, Hank, I don’t say this to be snide, but persecution is when they herd you into concentration camps or just take you out and shoot you. Democracy is when you win some elections but lose others. And self-pity is when you confuse the two.

Try to understand that there are millions of Christians in this country who read and study the Bible every day, say the Apostle’s Creed, pray the Lord’s Prayer, pray for their friends and family and country, tithe to their churches, give time and money to charity, teach Little League and run emergency aid drives, and just generally help make their communities good and pleasant places to live . . . but vote Democratic. Some of them are even anti-abortion and vote Democratic anyhow.

You guys are not the righteous remnant. If you want to “influence” the world, or even just to win over the part of the Church that votes Democratic, you’re going to need to love your political enemies. You can start by identifying with them, by recognizing that all your conservative politics and love of the Constitution plus a dollar and change can buy you a cup of coffee but not a drop of righteousness in God’s eyes. Sit in sackcloth and ashes and silence for awhile and you’ll gain a hearing in some quarters and the country will be much better off because of it. Keep on beating your chests and pointing your fingers and you’ll end your days in bitterness and rage, clinging to your “rights,” despised at worst, pitied at best, and listened to not at all.

  4. Please tell this to the Democrat. We the People, One nation under God etc, as on democrat told me was were just catch phrases to put fear into the unlightened. They should no longer be used by anyone. I asked you are telling me that in our founding documents that these phrases are typo. He rely was firetruck you. Both side need to stop the B. S., the beating of chest, pointing fingers etc. But it is easier for both side to preach doom and gloom. Than as the Democrat Lawyer told me to my face I was stupid for not believing in government. For believing that my rights came from a higher authority, instead from government. Being told I should take down the American Flag, the POW flag, the Christian flag because they are appropriate to fly at poll. I asked did you vote, yes what about the flags inside the poll, what about the flags hangin outside the school. They were ok because government put them there. If one or two or three feel this way, than with lateral thinking does the whole party think this way. Is it easier to increase taxes here in Charlottesville than to step back and look at school or budget and decide do we really need to do this. Is this part of our cord functions? Or we will just keep on going way we are because our supports want this way.

Ken, I cannot now, nor have I ever been, nor will ever be able to conceive, how any supposed Christian, who does the aforementioned activities every day, can remotely attempt to explain, much less defend, being able to vote Democratic. According to the statistics extrapolated thus far, after all of the demographics have been calculated, and if those polled were truthful in their response; I find myself stupefied and perplexed beyond measure to think that more than 6 million self-described evangelical Christians would vote for a President who supports abortion on demand ; supported the same-sex marriage ballot initiatives that passed in Maryland, Maine and Washington; and was on the cover of Newsweek as America’s “first gay president.” Did these self-professed believers surrender their Biblical convictions in the voting booth, or did they never really have deep Biblical convictions on the critical issues to begin with? Whatever their reasons, these so-called evangelicals, made the success possible. This is what happens when the Church is weak and fails to disciple believers to turn Biblical faith into action. Anyone who can do this, and justify both to an inerrant Scripture, as well as simple logic, is in possession of a diseased mind, infected with sin. Man has taken it upon himself, to overrule God’s Divine Law. We have never been in need until recently, an exercise on the definition of marriage. We never considered, until recently, whether or not a child in its mother’s womb is a child, a fetus or a product of human conception. Until recently, we knew how to work, to save, to discipline ourselves and our children. It wasn’t until Dr. Spock, that parents ever questioned the God given nature of proper child rearing. Even Spock recanted his theories and practices just before he died. Too late, damage done. We seeded a whirlwind of narcissistic and rebellious children, rejecting traditional values and authority, jettisoning the tried and true, in order to move forward and to change society.
I have found the events of late, to be comparable to those of 1776 and 1860. With all of the jubilation, and the celebration of our impending funeral as a nation Tuesday night, I was reminded of the passage from Scripture: Exodus 32: 17-20
And Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, and said to Moses, There is a shout of war in the camp. And he said, it is not the sound of a shout of victory, neither is it the sound of a shout of defeat: it is the noise of alternate singing I hear. And it came to pass, when he came near the camp, and saw the calf and the dancing, that Moses’ anger burned, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and shattered them beneath the mountain. And he took the calf that they had made, and burned it with fire, and ground it to powder, and strewed it on the water, and made the children of Israel drink it.

Joshua, who was a military man, and had the command of the train-bands, feared there was a noise of war in the camp, but Moses, better distinguished the sound, and was aware that it was the voice of those that sing. It does not however appear that he told Joshua what he knew of the occasion of their singing; for we should not be forward to proclaim men’s faults: they will be known too soon. It is no breach of the law of meekness to show our displeasure at the wickedness of the wicked. The greatest sign of God’s displeasure against any person or people is HIS taking HIS law from them. Those that do dishonor to God really bring the greatest dishonor upon themselves: as Israel does here, as we in America, do now.

Often overlooked, thanks to Cecil B. DeMille, are the actions that follow: Ex 32: 25-27
And Moses saw the people how they were stripped; for Aaron had stripped them to their shame before their adversaries. And Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, He that is for Jehovah, let him come to me. And all the sons of Levi gathered to him. And he said to them, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel: Put every man his sword upon his hip; go and return from gate to gate through the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his friend, and every man his neighbor.

The people were given a choice, and the consequences for making the wrong one came swiftly, by the hands of their fellow man. What golden calf was being celebrated Tuesday night, and how many more laws will God remove from us, by the hands of celebration? I suppose those who chose to follow God, and went over to the side of Moses, could be considered a righteous remnant. I am reminded of Jesus’s warning to us in Matthew 10:34-36:

“Don’t imagine that I came to bring peace to the earth! I came not to bring peace, but a sword. ‘I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. Your enemies will be right in your own household!’

  6. If you guys are motivated by Biblical convictions, why are you always ranting about someone else’s sins instead of divorce and adultery and out of wedlock pregnancy and drug use, all of which are as high or higher in red states than blue ones?

Where does the Scripture even say that sexual sins are the worst sins in God’s eyes? What parable or saying of Jesus concerns homosexuality? He tells us to love our neighbors a ourselves. Where does he tell us to protect and revere individual rights? Jeremiah says of King Josiah that “He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well” (Jeremiah 22:16). What prophet defends low taxes?
Deuteronomy 10: 19 says “You shall love the stranger, for you were once strangers in the land of Egypt.” Leviticus 19:34 says “The alien who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the alien as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.” Matthew 25: 35 says “I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” Where does the scripture say that children of illegal immigrants deserve to be kicked out of the country? And where does the scripture say that people earn whatever they can get, period? Where does it say that people who don’t have the natural gifts and opportunities to get an education or hold a high-paying job but work two or three low skills jobs deserve only the minimum wage, but people who’ve had every advantage deserve all they can get and shouldn’t be taxed to help elderly people who can’t afford both food and medicine? Chapter and verse, please.

You want to know why a lot of Christians vote Democratic? Read those verses. Try to answer those questions. There is no open and shut case in the scriptures for either liberal or conservative policies, but you guys don’t appear to actually know the scriptures very well. You just know the verses that you think justify you in your sense of superiority. Aid doesn’t automatically breed dependency. Plenty of people who receive help become self-sufficient and then help others. Mothers worried they can’t feed or properly raise another child don’t want to “murder their babies,”; they want to take care of the ones they already have. Committed gay couples aren’t thumbing their noses at God; they’re loving each other and don’t understand why they shouldn’t. Christian environmental activists don’t want to take away “property rights”; they believe “the earth is the Lord’s” and should be preserved creation for future generations. And the Democrats didn’t “take God out of their party platform.” They took out a word that’s been co-opted by people who insist on judging instead of understanding.

Jesus loved sinners. Does the Christian Right love gays and pro-choicers? Jesus wept over Jerusalem. You guys would have wagged your fingers at it.

  7. Ken:
wrong, in my heart I wept each and everyday here in charlottesville. when I watch and listen to individuals who don’t understand that there is more to life than ragging on me or someone else. In short term, middle term, long term we all our on same walk of faith. some of us try to understand, while other continue on same path of self-destruction. Most of us live our life quietly, no more, no less. it is easy if know how to pick and choose which Scrpture to use to prove your case or disprove my case. However I have found here in charlottesville there is a huge gap between what some of us believe and do visa the individuals who need a daily dose of government. Government can’t do it all. I don’t judge people, I have enought to do to keep up with myself. I am proud that I am American, I am not ashame as some of citizen here in Charlottesvile act (in my eye). I find it sad that well educated people volunteering at pole for Democrap party felt they had the right to come over and rag on woman and myself. I find it sad that well educated people volunteering at pole for Democrap party were not educated enough spiritually enough to recoginize the Christian flag on my truck. When I asked the individual about his faith, he got pissed. When the other young educated UVA man got up in my face aobut sign “Vote for Religious freedom. He told me that government gave me the right to practice my religion…. so when I asked him founding document had “One Nation under God,’ couldn’t answer the question. When I asked was this a typo, all he could do was FY as reply. I am not require to love gay, pro-choicers. In my nursing practive, I proved nursing care to these individuals. I understand doesn’t mean I have to accept it. But doesn’t mean I rag on them either. They are human being. I proved nursing care to some of worse individuals in state prison system. doesn’t mean I accepted or gave them approval for their crime. I proved nursing care to human being. They understood. As someone told me yesterday Before Bible study — the issue is not us, the issue is not everyone uses the same bible, the same dictionary. Ken you do excellent job of using the bible to defend casue that are your causes not mine. It is between a gay and pro-choicers and god what comes down.
As I put it yesterday, I know my life is coming to end. I know that someday I will standing in front of interview team in heaven. The question is did I feel out my job application correclty, did I live up to my EWP in their eyes. Living is hard and it seem that allot of individuals are looking for the easy way.But Ken, I will continue on my own path, as well as you. Be well.

  8. Thank you for those final words and for the thoughtful reply, area. I’ll just say that Democrats are not ashamed of America.
