Amidst great hoopla over President Barack Obama’s upcoming self-promotion tour to Charlottesville, local and national campaign coordinators are working overtime to unload tickets to the event.
Obama—who, will appear at the relatively small Ntelos Wireless Pavilion (3500 seating capacity) on Wednesday, August 29—is meeting widespread indifference across the country as campaign events consistently have attracted far fewer attendees that anticipated.
Multiple email releases have been sent to local media from a variety of sources, in an attempt to fill the arena:

In addition to the constant barrage of “free ticket” emails, Obama for America (OFA) effectively has utilized regional media, as well, to promote ticket availability, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here, etc.
Event interest has been so depressed that OFA has resorted to non-traditional distribution tactics such as phone calls to unlikely Obama supporters—this one received by a local libertarian:

On the mall yesterday they were giving the homeless tickets to go see Obama and this one man was weaving around on the street and waving his ticket saying, “I’m going to see Obama, I’m going to see Obama, have you got your ticket yet?” I guess they have to get rid of their tickets somehow, can’t have any empty seats for The Almighty One!!!
Obama insouciance might be anticipated in red or even purple localities across America—after all, Americans are hurting and this president largely is responsible for ratcheting the pain. But Marxism plays well in Charlottesville, a mecca of progressive groupthink that typically votes for Democrats in numbers exceeding 80%. Perhaps President Barack Obama has more to worry about than the mainstream media is telling you.

If they want attendees who look like "students" this is the wrong venue
that wont be hard, there are tons of homeless that hang out downtown everyday already.
Little known, but UVa did offer a venue for Obama, which his team turned down.
Why would they think to target libertarians, who as a whole tend to be more politically informed than the average voter? And by that, I mean that libertarians know that Obama, with NDAA, medicinal cannabis raids, and assassinations, has a worse record on civil liberties than Bush.
What do you think of Democratic leader Tom Dix on TV saying ~ They sent us a lot of tickets! I don’t know how many, but a lot.

They didn’t give out tickets last time, but the place was full. That was a Friday night in October; this is a late summer Wednesday afternoon. A lot of people probably can’t take any more vacation time off, or saw him last time and just don’t want to endure the transportation hassles and long waits again.
The Politico article that supposedly talks about “widespread indifference” to Obama’s appearances nationwide finds nothing of the sort, of course, just smaller crowds than in 2008 which it blames on poor campaign planning. (That sounds like an excuse, but it’s nonetheless what the article actually says). You know, Rob, if you keep on lying you’re going to lose the ability to tell the truth when the truth doesn’t suit you. It looks like you already have.
All those who oppose Obama should go get tickets and simply not show up. Then again, it appears that won't be necessary, as so few are interested anyway (in CHARLOTTESVILLE, no less!)
Nothing speaks louder than empty seats.
It is alway easier to find excuse, than to sit down and look at real reasons.
1. No job grow, Charlottesville has lost approx 3,000 jobs over last couple of yrs. One reason is living wage that city council insists we need.
2. when did Obama sign a federal budget? Or was it under President that we had a federal budget?
3. How many business (green friendly) that when belly up?
I guess allot of have lost the ability to tell true.

ELECTION RESULTS will tell the tale. Those not showing up to the rallies are also ones who probably will not go to the polls this time around (If the votes aren’t cast, it’s us!)
2012 will not be the “historic” election that 2008 was. “White guilt” has been absolved, numerous blacks as well a the apolitical people who would not have otherwise voted last time will likely maintain their daily routines this coming election day, and many others who were so fired up for all the hope and change are likely disenchanted, disappointed, or simply apathetic again, now that the realization has set in that the world didn’t change it’s orbit and life still isn’t a bowl of cherries every day since B.O. was elected.
For 2012, a new giant has been awakened – the regular everyday “working schlub”, who realizes that the America we have all taken for granted as The Land of the Free is in jeopardy of losing that status. The hope is that THIS is the giant, the new hoard, that will be at the polls en masse to decide the coming election.
Wow they actually let homless people see our President… Well by God Mitt Romney wouldn't stoop to that level… There isn't going to be any poor people or homeless people around him! He is way too high up on the food chain for that! And republicans try to run on Christianity keep posting things like this PLEASE it just makes the real party (Democrats) jobs a lot easier this year!

They took the seats out, of course. Crowd estimates range from 6500 to 7500 for this mid-afternoon, mid-week event, vs. 8000 for the Friday night appearance two years ago. In other words, the President drew an excellent crowd.
