Without providing normally-required notice to the public, on July 10, 2021 Charlottesville City Council held an “emergency” special meeting in order to authorize immediate removal of the Lewis and Clark Monument from West Main Street.

Pursuant to Virginia Code § 2.2-3707.D., BY ORDER OF MAYOR NIKUYAH WALKER, AN EMERGENCY MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL HAS BEEN CALLED AND SHALL BE HELD:

III. Vote to suspend City Council’s rule requiring a 5 hour meeting notice.
IV. OPEN MEETING to vote on a removal of the Lewis, Clark and Sacajawea statue located on West Main Street.
