Schilling Show host, Rob Schilling, has filed an open records lawsuit against local, government-funded transportation provider, JAUNT, Inc.
Following indications of fiscal irregularities at the embattled organization and the abrupt resignation of JAUNT CEO and former Albemarle County Supervisor, Brad Sheffield, Schilling submitted a request for information under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act.
In a December 19, 2020 email, JAUNT’s Director of Public Relations, Jody Saunders denied Schilling’s request, stating: “Regarding your request, Jaunt is not subject to the Virginia Freedom of Information Act (§ 2.2-3700 et seq. of the Code of Virginia).”
Attorney, Matthew Hardin, representing Schilling in the lawsuit, responded: “When you take public funds, you’re accountable to the public. I’m disappointed JAUNT has decided to hire lawyers to keep its financial records secret rather than letting the people of central Virginia know how their taxpayer dollars are being used.”
The case will be heard Monday, January 11 in Charlottesville General District Court.
