JMRL Northside Library dangerous for women and girls

The Jefferson Madison Regional Library (JMRL) female-designated bathrooms are a de facto danger zone for girls and women.

A recent report to The Schilling Show details precarious conditions in the Northside Library women’s restroom:

One my way into the Northside women’s bathroom I noticed in the vicinity a young male wearing a white hoodie with black splotches on it.  When I emerged from the stall and went to wash my hands he was at the mirror.  He had his hoodie pulled up.  With his right hand he was holding the sides of the hat part of hoodie over his face to conceal his male identity.  His beard was sticking out of the bottom of the cinched hood. I recognized the jacket right away.  I said, “I can see you’re a man.” Upon confrontation, he immediately ran out of the ladies’ room.

I went to the reference desk to report the incident. Hearing my concern, the woman there dashed to the bathroom even though the intruder had left. Later, when we were leaving the library I saw the same guy again, this time in one of the conference rooms. I went back to the reference desk, thinking “you can catch him now.” Instead, she said, “I’ve spoken with another library employee; it’s not our policy to tell people how to designate.

The problem is, he wasn’t designating. He was a man hiding his identity. Hiding his face. He had a full beard, narrow hips and didn’t look like the other transgender folks I regularly see around town.  He was openly male. He was in the Northside Library women’s bathroom knowing he wasn’t supposed to be.  Hiding his face.  The bathroom had at least 4 women in it at the time.

They have hit a new low at Northside.  It’s bad enough that they let homeless people sleep on the floor of the lobby (which I’ve witnessed many times). It is sad the elevator never works. But this was the worst. Guess you can’t safely bring your children to this library anymore. Can’t use a public restroom without peepers. What he was doing I’ll never know, but he was trying to conceal himself. And I was concerned for my safety and for the safety of other females who use that restroom.

A Schilling Show inquiry to the JMRL regarding their “bathroom use policy” was met with a didactic response:

JMRL does not have a specific bathroom policy, the understanding under which the Library operates regarding bathroom use would be guided by the library’s conduct policy.

In other words, JMRL allows men to linger in the ladies’ loo unabated.

Men in women’s restrooms should not be tolerated under any circumstances; however, the breach is particularly egregious in public spaces where defenseless young girls are known to congregate.

Patrons, beware: JMRL’s Northside Library is a danger zone. Women’s (and girls’) privacy and safety clearly have been subjugated in an ongoing culture war waged by Library administration.
