perriello-filmstripA caller to Congressman Tom Perriello’s office, inquiring about the Congressman’s position on Cap & Trade (Waxman Markey) legislation, was told this morning, by the Congressman’s staff person that Tom is “leaning toward” voting for this discriminatory, costly,+ job killing,+ and fraudulent bill.

Is Tom Perriello’s support of Cap and Trade what he was referring to when he promised to “work a double shift” for the people of the Fifth District?

Will Tom have the courage to jump out of Nancy Pelosi’s lap and vote against his party?

Is Tom Perriello more interested in “right vs. left” or “right vs. wrong“?

Please call Congressman Perriello’s office NOW to let him know that Cap and Trade is bad for the Fifth District, bad for America, and absolutely suicidal for his political career:

6/25/2009 5:02 PM Update 1: Here is text from Congressman Perriello’s latest media advisory, indicating that he WILL vote for this anti-American legislation:

The American Clean Energy and Security Act will revitalize our economy by creating millions of new jobs, increase our national security by reducing our dependence on foreign oil, and preserve our planet by reducing pollution. The legislation is backed by a broad coalition that includes electric utilities, consumer groups, car companies, manufacturers, environmental organizations, and faith communities. A poll released today by the Washington Post and ABC News shows that three-quarters of Americans favor federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions, with 60% of liberal and moderate Republicans supporting a cap-and-trade program.

6/26/2009 10:43 AM Update 2: Michael Del Rosso, a Fifth District constituent, visited Congressman Tom Perriello this morning to inquire about Tom’s position on Cap and Trade (H.R. 2454). Here is Mr. Del Rosso’s report on the meeting:

I was on Capitol Hill this morning on other business so I stopped in to see Rep. Perriello on this legislation (H.R. 2454). Tom Perriello said he was going to absolutely vote FOR it. He again admited, as he had done when we presented him with out Tea Party Petition, that he never educated himself on the information that led over 30,000 scientists to sign a petition protesting the bad science of “Global warming.” After all, “Global Warming” is the supposed reason we “need” this legislation. In fact, Tom could not give any intelligent reason as to why anyone would want this legislation. What words he did offer were vague platitudes that made no sense. Also, since the completed bill was not yet in circulation last night, given its size I would be surprised if he could even read through the tome before the vote comes up Friday. Finally, I pointed out that this bill is just a crass power grab that the left thinks they can use to generate tax revenue with. I warned him that this H.R. 2454 may end up being the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of our time; the economic burden this may impose may turn a recession into a Depression. I feel my words were lost on him.

  1. I just sent a polite e-mail requesting that Mr. Periello vote with the people. He needs to listen to The Schilling Show and he might learn something about climate change and energy policy from guests like George Allen, Charles Battig, and my personal new favorite, Lord Christopher. Rob, keep up the great work!

  2. Rush Limbaugh just talked about Tom Periello on his radio show.

He said that RedState.com posted the following information —

“Congressman Periello’s (D-VA) office told a caller that Congressman Periello wants there to be enough votes to pass Cap & Trade so he can vote no on it.”

I’m surprised his office gave a caller any information. When I asked about this issue — and have asked about other issues in the past — as to how he’s voting or what his position is, they won’t tell me anything. Just say he doesn’t know yet.
